Department of Language and Communication Studies is currently is currently seeking to recruit an
1-4 Post-doctoral Researchers in Applied Language Studies starting January 1st 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter for a fixed-term period of 6-12 months.
The advertised positions are linked to the profiling measure RECLAS– Research Collegium for Language in Changing Society that is a joint venture by the Department of Language and Communication Studies and the Centre for Applied Language Studies. RECLAS builds on a view of language as dynamic, social and societal. It brings together following research areas: research on language learning, teaching and assessment; critical sociolinguistics and discourse studies; research on language and education policies, as well as their theoretical and methodological development.
Candidates are expected to conduct internationally high quality research on some of the RECLAS research areas and especially at their intersections, to advance the research field of applied linguistics in collaboration with the other researchers in profiling area and be active in international research networks. Considering the career phase, the candidates must have strong track record in research and teaching in the area of applied language studies. Profound and broad methodological expertise as well as experience in multidisciplinary research are considered an asset.
An appointee to the position of Post-doctoral Researcher must have a promising track record of independent achievements at the post-doctoral level, including significant publications, and be active in international fora.
The duties and qualification requirements and language skills for the position of the Postdoctoral Researcher are stipulated by the University of Jyväskylä Regulations and language skills guidelines.
The Postdoctoral Researcher’s job-specific salary component is based on the job demands level 5-6 (2.893,95 €/month-3374,18 €/month) according to the salary system concerning teaching and research staff at universities. In addition, a personal performance-based salary component amounting to the maximum of 46,3 % of the job-specific salary component is also paid.
Trial period is applied to the filling the position. Trial pediod is half of the employment.

- A numbered list of all scientific and other publications – drawn up according to the categorisation of the Academy of Finland – with which the candidate wishes to demonstrate his or her eligibility an merits for the post;
- Short (2-3 pages) explanation of how the applicant intends to develop research, teaching and societal interaction in the profiling area and research, education and societal interaction in the field.
