ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF ITALIAN, CONTINUING TRACK (CT)
COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES
QUALIFICATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will teach beginning and intermediate Italian language courses at the undergraduate level. PhD in hand and at least two years of full-time university-level teaching experience in Italian at the time of the application are required. Experience in course coordination, supervision of language sequences, program development, and a background in pedagogy are expected. Experience in leading study abroad programs is also highly desirable.
Candidates should possess native or near-native fluency in Italian. They should also be strongly committed to high-quality instruction in a diverse, student-centered environment and be able to work with students with various learning styles and backgrounds. They should show interest in active and collaborative learning as well as an enthusiasm for working in a multidisciplinary environment with proven ability to engage with programs and departments across the university. Continuing Track faculty at the University of Delaware have teaching-focused appointments; interdisciplinary or scholarly interests that complement the classroom experience may also be highly valued.
The Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at the University of Delaware (https://www.dllc.udel.edu/) is within the College Arts and Sciences. The Italian program offers B.A. and M.A. degrees, with courses ranging from language and literature to culture and civilization, history, cinema and current events taught in Italian as well as English. Our student-run Italian club is active and dynamic, sponsoring film screenings, fund-raising events, and other academic enrichment activities throughout the semester.
